As everyone in the United States is sure to already know, earlier this month Paris was attacked. On Friday, November 13th, Paris was bombed and 128 were killed. Explosions were heard on the busy Friday night at the France versus Germany soccer game, as gunmen attacked sites throughout the French capital. By Saturday, it was reported that ISIS claimed responsibility for the Paris attacks.
Friday the 13th, 2015 proved to be a night that would further unite France and the United States. Facebook profiles were quickly masked with the French flag, and support and prayers were sent from all around the world. However, Jacksonville movers and residents have come together to open their arms even further to Parisians who may be residing in the area and need temporary housing assistance.
#StrandedinUS is the hashtag being used in Jacksonville to welcome Parisians to local residents’ homes. The hashtag started trending late Friday night after the attacks, as locals learned that there were many Parisians who were stranded in the U.S. as airports in France were closed.
All My Sons Moving & Storage Jacksonville learned that Adam Urra, a local resident, even offered up his home in Murray Hill on Twitter. The city of Jacksonville is proud to have so many residents offering up their homes for stranded Parisians, like the French phrase “porte ouverte,” which means “his door is open.” The trend took fire when Parisians were offering up their homes to victims in Paris, which quickly caught on in the United States through social media.
“Despite something horrible being done by a very small group of obviously fanatical very violent people, there’s a lot more good people in the world,” Urra said.
