Making Moving Day Easier For Your Children

Moving with children can present some unique challenges on moving day. Jacksonville movers and everyone at the Jacksonville All My Sons would like to help make your moving day smoother. Consider using some of the following suggestions to ease your little ones’ concerns:

Use positive language to introduce your new home to your children.

Before you pack away any toys or clothing, take the time to introduce the idea of moving to your children. If you have a photo of your new home or have some information about your new neighborhood, then share those with your children. If you can do this with a positive and understanding conversation, then your child should feel that it is safe and appropriate to share their concerns with you.

Share information with your children as you get it.

You can ease some of your child’s fear of the unknown when you take the time to introduce your child to the new home and new neighborhood. If possible, visit the home once or twice, check out any local parks or shops, and walk around the neighborhood.

Involve your children in the packing process.

Your little one may find it much easier to box up their treasures, even temporarily, when they feel that they have some control over the process. Label boxes clearly and have your youngster add his or her own marks to indicate the important boxes with their belongings. Try to save these items for last when it comes to packing up. Safely introduce your child to the Jacksonville movers who are helping you with the move.

Take time to say good-bye to your old home.

Even if your children are excited about the move, there will often be some feelings of sadness at leaving. Taking a few minutes to say good-bye to the old familiar home and yard can provide some important feelings of closure.
