With gas prices the lowest that they have been in four years, roughly two-thirds of gas stations nationwide are currently charging $3 or less per gallon, according to Oil Price Information Service.

Where are the best gas prices in Jacksonville right now?

– At the Valero on the Northside of town, gas is listed at $2.91 per gallon.

– 13 miles farther, on the Eastside, an Exxon off Atlantic Boulevard has gas listed for $2.88 per gallon.

– Southside Jacksonville has gas still listed for over $3 per gallon, except at a Marathon which had gas for $2.96.

– The biggest drop in price is located in Westside Jacksonville, listed at one station for $2.85 per gallon.

AAA experts say that gas prices follow a trend of dropping around this time of year; however, the recent drop has been more drastic than previous years due to the declining price of crude oil. Cost per barrel of oil have decreased from $100 per barrel to $80 per barrel.

The amount of money that people will save at the pump will help boost the local economy as well. As people have an extra $20 a week, they will be more inclined to go to dinner, see a movie, or do something with their family; allowing the money to be put into local business.

If you are moving to Jacksonville and are curious about how much gas you will need for a trip and where the best place is to fill your tank, there’s an app for that!

Some of the most popular gas calculating apps are: Journey Cost Calculator and Cost 2 Drive. Select your vehicle and your route and “get trip details” to calculate your trip’s fuel cost.

Once you calculate your moving day fuel costs, let All My Sons Moving & Storage help make your move even easier by letting us do the packing, moving, and assembly for you!

Of all the items you plan on moving, your vehicle may be among the most valuable. Relocating a car can be easy when you use the right Jacksonville movers, such as our team at All My Sons. We are happy to help you and can provide these key tips for moving your car:

Removing Personal Items. It is always a good idea to remove any of your personal belongings from the vehicle before it ships. This reduces the risk of damage if the items move during transit. Additionally, your car may be inspected during the move, which means it may have to remain unlocked. Removing any valuables or custom products, such as a GPS system or stereo system, will mitigate the risk of theft.

Prep the Car. There are a number of things you can do in terms of maintenance to make for a smooth transport and re-entry:

  • Make sure the battery has a full charge
  • Take the vehicle to a mechanic for a tune-up
  • Top off any fluids in the car except gasoline, which should only be at about a quarter full to save on freight costs

You can also ask the transporter if there are any other details you should tend to prior to shipping.

Inspect the Vehicle. You should thoroughly clean the interior and exterior of the vehicle and then perform an inspection. Make a note of any scratches, dents or other cosmetic damage. You may even consider taking pictures of the car. Your Jacksonville movers will likely also conduct an inspection of their own and ask you to sign off on it.

Following these tips will ensure your vehicle will move well with you.

Getting ready to move can be a lot of work. We here at All My Sons in Jacksonville know that the last thing you want to do when you get to your new home is spend all your time sorting through unorganized boxes. We are happy to offer some tips on the most efficient way to pack up your home, whether you have Jacksonville movers do it or choose to do it yourself.

  1. One Room at a Time

It can be easy to bounce from room to room as you pack, especially if you are spreading out the task over a couple of days. Try to focus on just one area at a time. This way, you can ensure that you have taken care of every last item and check the room off your to-do list.

  1. Proper Labeling

Most people know to mark on a box which room the items belong to, but proper labeling extends beyond that. Put a number on every box and keep a running list of the numbers as well as what each box contains. When you get to your new home and move the boxes inside, you can cross off the containers one by one and make sure everything has gotten to the new location.

  1. Use Professional Materials

Sure, a laundry basket can double as a moving container when you are in a pinch, but you should utilize sturdy boxes and packing materials to keep your belongings safe. Our Jacksonville movers at All My Sons can provide you with the supplies you need to make your move a breeze.

Moving to a new city can be exciting, but it may also require an adjustment period. You might have to figure out the best way to get to work and where to find the best grocery stores. At All My Sons in Jacksonville, we are happy to provide our customers with an idea of where to find good information about your new town. As our Jacksonville movers help get you settled, you can do a little research on your new surroundings.

City Websites

A great place to start gathering information is online. Most cities have a website dedicated to providing new and existing residents with resources, such as:

  • Schools
  • Utilities
  • Parks and recreation

In many cases, you may even be able to register for your utilities online or sign up for the city’s e-newsletter.

New Neighbors and Co-workers

People are often curious about who is moving in next door, so take the opportunity to introduce yourself. In addition to making a new friend, you may be able to get advice regarding which roads are crowded during rush hour and which grocery stores have the best produce. If you are starting a new job, your supervisor or co-workers are likely happy to show you around town, or at least point you in the right direction.

Your Movers

We here at All My Sons in Jacksonville pride ourselves on our excellent customer service. If you need advice on your new city, please feel free to ask our Jacksonville movers. Our goal is to make your transition as smooth as possible.

Of all the many exciting things associated with moving into a new Jacksonville home, decorating may come close to topping the list. Whether you are walking into a blank slate or a house that has remnants of its old owners, there are a few things you can do once the Jacksonville movers are done unloading your things. We here at All My Sons Jacksonville are happy to offer the following ideas:

  1. Don’t Be Afraid to Mix and Not Match

Not everything in your home needs to match perfectly. In fact, going overboard with matching can make your home look a little too staged. Instead, feel free to play with different colors, textures and décor. A few stylized sets, such as matching your kitchen towels with the curtains, can be great complements to an eclectic centerpiece on the breakfast table.

  1. Start in the Bedroom

Is the great room overwhelming you? Don’t fret. Many designers suggest decorating the bedroom first, as you spend roughly a third of your time in there. Find a paint color and new bedding you like and go from there.

  1. Plan Ahead

Before the Jacksonville movers even show up to your old home, you can start putting together ideas for your new house. Use the floor plan to picture where furniture will go. This not only makes it easier on the movers, but it can also give you an idea of how you will set up a room.

Following these ideas and searching online for more can add to your excitement about your upcoming move.

Jacksonville is proud to host the Wounded Warrior Project, a veterans service organization to “honor and empower Wounded Warriors” from the post-9/11 conflicts. While the headquarters has been in Jacksonville since the organization’s inception, there are plans to possibly move the national headquarters South to Johns County. While the move’s not far, it does mean a loss of about five hundred well paying jobs in the area, half of which will be relocations.

While the news of people moving is always good here at All My Sons Moving & Storage, it’s always a shame to lose both neighbors and an organization that has been a badge of honor for us here in Jacksonville. Fortunately, the national nature of the organization means that Jacksonville veterans will still be cared for, and the hundred million some odd dollars spent annually in aid will still go where it needs to.

While many veterans are suffering under the present system to get timely care for even essential surgeries, organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project are making a real difference. You can do the same by making a contribution to their efforts.

If you are a hopeful homeowner, then you may be considering a pool for your new residence. Your Jacksonville movers here at All My Sons can help you get everything moved inside of your home, and we can also offer you some guidance on how to choose a properly sized pool for your yard and your individual needs.

Who Will Be Using the Pool?

If everyone in your family likes to swim, then you’ll want a pool that’s large enough to accommodate your entire family. If you’re thinking that you want to get a large pool, consider the fact that a majority of kids won’t be upset because a pool is small. They’ll be just as excited about a small pool as they are a big pool.

Will You Be Doing Laps?

If you enjoy swimming laps in the pool, we recommend that you get one that’s at least 34’ in length.

Do You Want a Patio?

You also have to keep your patio design in mind while deciding how big your pool will be. If you absolutely love swimming, you might not mind having a smaller patio so that you can have a larger pool. If you only swim every once in a while, a larger patio could be more to your liking.

For more tips on choosing the perfect size swimming pool and getting everything moved into your new Jacksonville home, call the friendly Jacksonville movers here at All My Sons.
